The Lord has been speaking to me about Jesus being my best friend.
I say it, and I sing it, but is it true?
Is Jesus my best friend? Is He really?
Because I am certainly NOT the perfect Christian. I’m not even the perfect human. I stumble, and (more than I would like to admit) I fall flat on my face. Does that sound like something the Creator of the Universe would want to call “distant acquaintance,” much less “best friend?” Well…
I started to think about what it meant to say that Jesus is my best friend. The Word says that He sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs says that a friend loves at ALL times.
Best friends know your secrets. They know about the time you had company and you shoved all your dirty dishes in the oven so nobody would see them (not that I have EVER done THAT.) They know which closet you store your skeletons in. They know the things you aren’t proud of. Sometimes they were THERE WITH YOU when those things happened. They know your scars, your heartbreaks, your dreams, your hurts and your fears. They know the ugly, hateful things that you did and said. They also know about the times when you stood up and did the right thing but were still ridiculed and lambasted. They know your disappointments and the things that secretly shattered your heart.
I think it all boils down to this: What makes a person your BEST FRIEND?
It’s pretty simple. They know ALL THE DIRT, and they LOVE you ANYWAY.
So maybe, even though I am not perfect, Jesus is my best friend after all. Just a thought.
John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
